Seawolves Strengthen Backcourt with Cole Johnson Signing
ANCHORAGE (June 10) – The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team has bolstered its backcourt as head coach Rusty Osborne announced the signing of guard Cole Johnson. The 6-2, 180-pound athlete joins the Seawolves after a successful tenure at Colorado Northwestern Community College, where he started all 58 games, shooting .386 from three-point range and .779 from the free-throw line.
Johnson, a Kaysville, Utah native, averaged 11.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists as a sophomore, including standout performances of 20 points against Utah State-Eastern and 19 points with a remarkable 9-12 shooting against Southern Nevada. His freshman season was equally impressive, as he earned All-Scenic West Conference Third Team honors with averages of 16.3 points and 1.5 steals per game, scoring over 20 points in 11 games, including a career-high 26 points in a victory over Community Christian.
“We are excited to add a talented and experienced guard like Cole to our program,” said Osborne. “His versatility allows him to play both as a traditional point guard and a scoring role. Cole’s experience in a highly competitive junior college region has prepared him well for the challenges ahead.” With Johnson’s signing, UAA adds more size and shooting capability to its backcourt.
Before his junior college career, Johnson was an all-league standout at Farmington High School, averaging 11.5 points as a senior. He is the fourth recruit for UAA’s 2025 class, joining fellow transfers Akok Machar and Sylas Williams, as well as freshman Marek Hajdukovich.
