Way Out West Weekend Celebrates Community and Equestrian Talent in Ramona

The Ramona Outdoor Community Center was alive with excitement on May 17 and 18 as the Way Out West Weekend showcased family-friendly rodeo and competitive equestrian events. This two-day festival served as a fundraiser for the Ramona Rodeo Foundation, benefitting local nonprofits, sponsorships, and educational scholarships, as noted by organizers Selena Roberts, Jeanne Malone, and Rachelle Laws.

Saturday featured a variety of activities including barrel racing, pole bending, and team penning, alongside informative equine wellness presentations. The inaugural Steve Tellam Memorial Team Penning event on Sunday featured promising competitors, with top teams now qualifying for the upcoming Ramona Rodeo. The event honored the late Steve Tellam and his father, who were instrumental in the team’s development and local youth programs.

Prominent among the winners were the Pro Am Novice Champions, Michelle Cheek, Braden Greer, and Kathy Mitchell, with awards presented by members of the 2025 Ramona Rodeo Court. Youth categories also shone brightly, with honors going to Braden Greer, Macy Mault, Carrie Vincent, and Gianna Joyce in barrel racing and team penning competitions.

The excitement continues with the Ramona Rodeo Jr. Barrels Qualifier scheduled for August 16. The main Rodeo is set for August 21-23, featuring the continuation of the Steve Tellam Memorial Team Penning events each night.

Community engagement was further highlighted by the participation of the 2025 Ramona Rodeo Court, including Senior Queen Sujhey Rosas and Junior Queen Emilie Hudson, further embodying the spirit of support and camaraderie that defines this cherished local event.
