Korean F-16 incident: Aircrew ejects at Eielson Air Force Base, officials report.

Incident Involving Republic of Korea F-16 at Eielson Air Force Base

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU/KTVF) – Eielson Air Force Base officials have confirmed an incident involving a Republic of Korea F-16 jet that occurred Tuesday afternoon. Although the specifics of the incident remain unclear, the base’s public affairs office reported that an investigation is currently underway.

The incident involved a Republic of Korea Air Force F-16D Fighting Falcon, which took off around 4 p.m. Tuesday. According to Eielson officials, the aircraft “departed the prepared surface, and the aircrew ejected” within the base’s fencing. Details regarding the number of crew members involved have not been disclosed. However, it has been reported that the aircrew members were subsequently taken to Bassett Army Community Hospital for further evaluation, with emergency crews promptly responding to the scene.

Witness Sarah Sioka, who was traveling along the Richardson Highway around 5:26 p.m., described observing what appeared to be the damaged aircraft. Sioka noted that there was no fire or smoke at the time but estimated that 8-10 emergency vehicles were present. She described the aircraft as having its nose down on the runway and the back end upright, indicating possible damage.

This is a developing story. Additional updates will follow as more information becomes available.
