Partnership to Boost Alaska’s Rocket Launch Facilities

On June 10, 2025, a significant partnership was formalized between the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Geophysical Institute and Alaska Aerospace. The agreement was signed by UAF Geophysical Institute Director Robert McCoy and Alaska Aerospace President and CEO John Oberst, marking a pivotal moment for rocket launch capabilities in the state.
This collaboration aims to enhance the operational efficiency of Alaska’s rocket launch ranges, specifically the state-owned Kodiak launch range and the university-managed Poker Flats site. By combining resources, both entities will work to share costs, thereby optimizing their respective operations.
The new agreement is expected to open up additional opportunities for research and commercial launches, positioning Alaska as a strategic hub for aerospace activities.
