Firefighters Battle Lush Fire Near Rampart
By BLM Alaska Fire Service on June 21, 2025
The Lush Fire (#199), burning close to Rampart, continues to pose challenges for firefighting teams. As of Saturday, the fire remains active, having grown to approximately 645 acres. It is located north of the Yukon River, opposite Rampart.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team, largely comprised of employees from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska Fire Service (AFS), has taken charge of firefighting efforts. The team has mobilized smokejumpers, the Midnight Sun Hotshots, and the North Star Fire Crew to protect nearby structures and Alaska Native allotments situated on the north side of the Yukon River.
Firefighters will continue operations throughout the weekend, focusing on safeguarding properties and enhancing temporary helicopter landing zones to facilitate the safe transfer of crews and firefighting equipment.
The BLM Alaska Fire Service, based at Fort Wainwright, oversees wildland fire suppression across over 240 million acres of public and Native Corporation lands in Alaska. Their extensive mission includes fire management policy interpretation and interagency coordination with various state and federal entities.
