Glenfarne Alaska LNG Partners with Thailand’s PTT for Major LNG Project
Glenfarne Alaska LNG LLC announced that PTT Public Company Limited of Thailand has signed a cooperation agreement to participate strategically in the Alaska LNG project. This agreement paves the way for Alaska LNG and PTT to negotiate definitive agreements for a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) offtake, potentially procuring 2 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) over two decades.
Adam Prestidge, President of Glenfarne Alaska LNG, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “PTT and the Thai government recognize the strategic security and stability advantages of the Alaska LNG project.” He highlighted that 50% of Alaska LNG’s available third-party LNG offtake capacity has been reserved for investment-grade partners.
Glenfarne CEO Brendan Duval pointed to ongoing global instability as a key reason for the need for secure LNG sourcing from Alaska. He emphasized that the agreement with PTT represents significant momentum for Alaska LNG, which aims to address the state’s natural gas needs and foster economic growth.
The Alaska LNG project includes an 807-mile pipeline designed to meet both domestic consumption and export needs, allowing for the construction of an LNG export facility in Nikiski, Alaska. Plans are in motion for the pipeline’s construction phases, and Glenfarne is working with contractors to finalize engineering solutions for the project.
Moreover, Glenfarne highlighted that Alaska LNG is positioned to deliver competitively priced LNG to Asia, bolstered by its fully permitted status and support from federal, state, and local stakeholders.
