Anchorage’s Brandon Dubinsky Inducted into Alaska Sports Hall of Fame
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Brandon Dubinsky, a prominent figure in Alaskan hockey, has been inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. Growing up in Alaska, Dubinsky developed a deep love for hockey that was shaped by his experiences skating outdoors on lakes and rinks. “Hockey was just my singular focus,” he reflected, emphasizing how integral the sport was to his childhood.
Dubinsky enjoyed a successful 13-season career in the NHL, playing for the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets. He is celebrated as one of Alaska’s best hockey players, combining offensive prowess and defensive skill. With 153 goals and 285 assists, Dubinsky ranks second for career points among Alaskans, following Scott Gomez.
“Brandon Dubinsky is regarded as one of the best two-way skaters to come out of Alaska,” said Harlow Robinson, Executive Director of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame. Dubinsky’s capability on both ends of the ice was evident through his 832 career games and his contributions in penalty-killing situations, face-offs, and physical gameplay.
Known for his grit, Dubinsky was not shy about dropping the gloves, having engaged in 43 NHL fights against some of the sport’s greats, including Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. “The gritty and physical side… it’s something I enjoyed,” he shared.
Throughout his career, whether with the Alaska Aces during the NHL lockout or representing Team USA, Dubinsky always carried Alaska’s pride with him. "Making sure that we do our best to represent Alaska is pretty special," he noted. His induction recognizes not just personal achievement, but his role in lifting the Alaskan spirit in the world of hockey.
